Recently, The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC order all phone subscribers to link their sim card to their national Identity Number (NIN) valid for 2 weeks.
MTN Nigeria has opened a portal for customers for easy Application.
One of the biggest Nigeria’s telecommunication firm advised its subscribers to comply with directives from the NCC.
According to the NCC Director of Public Affairs of the NCC, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, any telecom operators that failed to comply with the directive risked outright withdrawal of its license or heavy penalty.

Steps to Link your NIN To Mtn Sim
Follow the steps below to link your Nin to your mtn phone number:
- Go to https://mtnonline.com/nim/
- Fill the form with the appropriate details as shown on the screenshot above
- Then an OTP message will be sent to your phone number, copy it and paste on the next page you find as show on the screenshot below
- When done, click on Submit and your good to go.
You can also link your MTN SIM with your NIN by just dialing *785#

According to the The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), the Federal Government has approved the licensing of 173 Agents and 30 State Governments/Public Sector Institutions to conduct the enrolment. The National Identity Management Commission asked Nigerians to dial *346# to retrieve dia NIN number for the NIM sim registration.

Airtel Users
To link your NIN to your Airtel phone number, follow the steps below:
Dial *121# on the Airtel line you wish to link.
Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send
Enter your 11-digit NIN and send.
Wait for the message confirming your submission. If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again.
Other networks (Glo and 9mobile)
For now, Glo and 9Mobile have not commenced sim linking with NIN. As soon as they commence, we will update this post to reflect the steps you must follow to carry out the linking.
However, to get yourself ready to be able to carry out the linking of your NIN with your phone number here’s what you must do:
Visit any NIMC office near you and apply for your National Identity Card if you haven’t
Register and obtain your temporary ID slip which will contain your NIN
Keep your NIN details in a safe place so that you’ll be able to provide them when necessary.
What if you forgot your NIN and don’t have the slip?
If you don’t know your NIN, just dial *346# on the SIM card you registered with the National Identity Management Centre (NIMC).
A message containing your NIN will be displayed, just copy it somewhere safe.
Note that checking your NIN via the USSD provided above costs N20 only.

How to check your NIN using USSD code
you can only check your NIN if you enrolled for the national ID card scheme, you can get your NIN by dialling *346# from the phone number associated with your voter’s card, drivers licence, or BVN registration.
Ensure you have at least ₦20 airtime on your line and then dial the code. Then you either write or take a screenshot when the NIN is displayed on the screen as it will not be displayed more than once.
At the moment, the USSD code works on MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile.
